Hotel champion doubles up to take top restaurant title

Kevin & Julie receive their 'Real Food' award from Lady Claire MacdonaldColl not only has Scotland’s top islands hotel - it now boasts the country’s best hotel restaurant!

The six-bedroom Coll Hotel retained its Scottish islands title in the 2009 Hotel Review Scotland Awards in which users of the industry’s Website also voted it National Hotel Restaurant of the Year.

Owners Julie and Kevin Olpihant said they were thrilled at their latest successes - but raised their eyebrows at being voted runner-up in another category - ‘Rising Star - Small Hotel’ because they’re about to celebrate their 25th anniversary of ownership!
“After being told we were the best hotel in the islands and the best hotel restaurant in Scotland it was an eye-opener to hear we’re still rated as a rising star after a quarter-of-a-century here,” Julie said. “But it shows we may have even further to go and certainly won’t be resting on our laurels.”

In addition, in the rival Scottish Hotels of the Year Awards Julie and Kevin were presented with the ‘Real Food’ award for the Highlands and Islands region at a spectacular ceremony at the Crowne Plaza in Glasgow.

The Coll Hotel is particularly renowned for its seafood supplied by boats based in Arinagour Bay just a few hundred metres away.
“We are honoured to have been given these awards, especially since we were competing against some of Scotland’s most prestigious, grandest and most expensive hotels,” Julie Oliphant went on. “It’s gratifying and encouraging to know that the high standards we set in the kitchen, restaurant and throughout the hotel have been applauded by so many people.”
